Why This Blog Exists
I’m totally amped about you joining me here at the blog if it’s your first time. This blog exists for you. In this post I simply want to get your feedback.
I’ve been blogging since 2004, but haven’t always been very focused on any given subject. In the last year or so I’ve seen the need to get more on target.
I’m a singer/songwriter, primarily blogging about my own experiences with music and worship in the Church, but I’d like to hear what you guys think about the subject. I thought it would be good to get your thoughts when it comes to music ministry, songwriting, and “Christian music” in general.
I’d love for these questions to not only provoke deeper thinking, but also act as conversation starters. So please take advantage of the comment section below…
The Questions
How do you define Christian music?
I’ve been thinking a lot about this recently. At one level it’s a pretty easy answer, but at the same time it can get a little complicated. What exactly is Christian music? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
What kind of songs aren’t being written in the church that need to be sung?
When I read the Psalms I see a rich palette of themes being expressed through the psalmist. Are we doing the same in our churches? What would you like to hear the Church singing more about?
What is the relationship between art and evangelism and how should believing artists be thinking about this?
I’m a firm believer that true art and creativity should reflect the greatness of Jesus. In doing so, people who don’t know Christ will be exposed to the gospel. But to what extent has our art simply turned into knock offs of pop culture for Christendom? How can Christian artists reach more people with the gospel?
What has impacted your walk with God from the creative arts?
Perhaps there’s a song, or a particular album that you can point back to, that God used in your life. It could be an artist, or a band, or anything. What were the qualities about it that made the difference?
Looking forward to your getting your thoughts…
