Here’s our 5th CMB-ite Spotlight with artist Amber Rose Davies. For more on what our spotlights are all about, read more here.
CMB: How did you get started in music?
Amber Rose Davies: When I moved to Colorado 8 years ago, I started writing music and lyrics whenever I could. Before I knew it, I was trying out for bands, mostly rock, some Christian and some not. The most recent band I tried out for turned out like the rest, with several auditions, but without me becoming their lead singer. But from the connections I made in that band came my videographer Phil, and also one of my main producers, Rob. You just never know where the silver lining is going to be. That’s when I decided that I was going to go for it, and try the solo artist route. And it’s been great! But as a solo artist, you still have got to have a great team. I am blessed.
CMB: What would be your top three non-musical influences?
Amber Rose Davies: Wow- just three? That’s hard. My family, God and nature. I write a lot on trail runs up here in the mountains by my house. Nothing like some fresh air to clear the mind.
CMB: How about your top three musical ones?
Amber Rose Davies: I love the influence that electronica is having on mainstream music right now, and also the power that remixes are having remaking all genres of music into something even bigger and better than the original. Lana Del Rey has such a mysterious, emotional quality in her voice. I love her song “Young and Beautiful”. I recently did a cover of it (you can see it on my YouTube station). Family Force Five have such an infectious energy about them. Their music is both uplifting (and addicting!) And lastly, I would say Kaskade. As a DJ and producer, he has brought really great lyrics and singers into his songs, helping push the EDM (electronic dance music) genre forward with great energy. He also has great social media presence.
CMB: What would be your general process for writing a song from start to finish?
Amber Rose Davies: Either turn on the radio and sing along, or go for a run. Although one of the best ways of writing new music is listening to music, my best bet is going for a run, and hoping I don’t forget the lyrics before I get back home when I can write them down.
CMB: What would be your biggest piece of advice to us as a believer when writing and creating original music?
Amber Rose Davies: Quiet your mind. Listen to your heart.
CMB: Can you tell us a little about your local church community where you worship?
Amber Rose Davies: My family and I go to Red Rocks Church in Golden, Colorado. They have the most amazing worship program during services; loud music, smoke machines, powerful lyrics, you name it. Music is a powerful force. I look to my church for inspiration and leadership in where I should take my music, what I can do to help others with the word of God.
CMB: Thanks again for sharing your music with your fellow CMB-ites. Where should people go to find out more about you online?
Amber Rose Davies: I love updating my Twitter, which you can check here. You can also see live performances and my music videos here.
