It’s time for a little blogger round-up.
Last fall I immersed myself in ten different blogs during the month of November. I carefully selected blogs where I knew I would learn something I needed to apply as a worship leader and songwriter.
Even though I only wrote a few posts about my little 30 day commitment, it was greatly beneficial.
Here’s a little round-up of some of my favorite posts from the ones that were specifically about music and/or worship leading.
There are also a few posts that were recently written that are worth pointing out. Such as the new Chris Tomlin CD give-away…
The Posts
How Does CCLI Work?
This is a very helpful post Steve Rice put together over at his blog Songsphere. The guy is a wealth of information when it comes to all things publishing and songwriting. CCLI can be a confusing thing. I think every worship leader, especially those who write songs, should have a good grasp on how it works. This post will help you greatly. Check it.
Christ Centered Worship
This is an excellent look at how to make your worship ministry more about the main thing. I’ve really enjoyed David Santistevan’s blog over the last few months and have learned a lot from this guy. In fact, I had the privilege of interviewing him here on their church’s recent album release, Undying Love. In this post David gives us three practical check points to use for making our worship ministries more Christ-centered and gospel driven. Great stuff here.
Burning Lights Giveaway
Rich from the Worship Myth Busters podcast is giving away 5 copies of Chris Tomlin’s latest CD. All you have to do is leave a comment. Easy enough! Don’t miss the deadline… Jan 14th. I’m actually planning on doing a review of Chris’s new album which will go live here at the blog tomorrow.
Should Secular Songs Be Used in Church?
His post wasn’t even that long, but whew did it have some comments. I honestly don’t know where I stand on this issue. I think it’s a very nuanced debate. Some people have some pretty strong opinions on it. Join the lively discussion here.
Codependent Worshipers
Rob has knocked it out of the park with this one… It’s a bit of a rant, but that’s good to do from time to time. The only thing this post needs is more worship leaders reading it.
5 Things to Remember about Melody in Songwriting
I’ve mentioned before that I’m mostly a melody guy when it comes to writing songs. I’ve always needed to work extra hard at crafting good lyrics. This post by Chris up in Canada is one that I can totally agree with as a songwriter. Here’s a quote from it that every writer of congregational worship songs needs to remember:
“You are not writing songs for singers, you are writing songs for talkers who are being asked to sing…” Yes!
