What is WordPress?
WordPress is an awesome CMS for website owners and bloggers.
CMS simply stands for Content Management System, and WordPress does all of that and more.
Started in 2003, WordPress was built to be a simple publishing tool for bloggers who wanted a more intuitive way to publish their content to the web.
Now over 10 years later, it is the number one choice of content creators, large organizations, small businesses and everything in between.
But why is WordPress so great?
What exactly does it do?
First of all there is a distinction that needs to be made between WordPress as an open source platform and wordpress.com for easy blogging.
WordPress.com gives users a headache free way to quickly publish their words.
Don’t sweat managing your hosting, updates, or dealing with breaking plugins, because wordpress.com gives you an easy way to simply be the creative writer you dream about being.
The only problem with this, is that you don’t want to run a real business on their platform. Because at the end of the day you still don’t own your site.
If you really want to go a headache free route, just go the Squarespace route.
Seriously.
But if you are the kind of person who wants control, flexibility, and the assurance of having hundreds of other great tools and entities integrate beautifully into your site, then the FREE, open source software from WordPress.org is the way to go.
But again let’s answer the question….
What is EXACTLY is WordPress?
WordPress arranges all the content on your site from an easy to use interface behind your website or blog.
It flawlessly runs on what is called PHP, but I’m not going to get into that….
What you really care about is what it will do for YOU:
With WordPress you can run your entire website without knowing any code.
With WordPress you have access to thousands of both free and paid plugins to supercharge your website.
With WordPress you can find amazingly cheap themes that look REALLY PROFESSIONAL.
With WordPress you have access to a massive number of other tools and integrations that focus on building your business.
From Email autoresponders to eCommerce. From content marketing to running private membership sites for paid courses, WordPress can do pretty much anything.
